It is the most representational street of Gliwice. Zwycięstwa street was marked out in ca. 1880 thanks to the demolition of the defensive walls – the Old Town opened up to a larger space at the time. In the beginning, Zwycięstwa street, or Wilhelmstrasse, to be more precise (its name commemorated Emperor Wilhelm I), started at the today’s Dolnych Wałów street. Nowadays it runs from the Market Square to the railway station.

Thanks to preserved and renovated buildings, when taking a stroll along Zwycięstwa street you can admire various architectural styles and tendencies of the turn of the 19th century. Weichmann’s Textile House at 37 Zwycięstwa street is one of the most interesting examples. Designed by an avant-garde architect Erich Mendelsohn and erected in 1921-1922, it shocked the then Gliwice residents with its expressionistic form. The edifice of the City Hall, a former hotel, is located at Zwyciestwa street, as well.
